Laurita Blewitt is part of one of the country's favourite podcasts, 'The Tommy, Hector and Laurita Podcast'. In an interview with Balls.ie ahead of this year's SportsDirect Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others, Mayo native Blewitt spoke about Kevin McStay's appointment, Joe Brolly's interest in Mayo GAA, as well a certain famous celebrity relative.
It's been a busy week for Mayo GAA and on Monday evening, Kevin McStay was ratified as Mayo senior football manager. After months of careful consideration from the County Board, they opted for the former Roscommon manager.
GAA: Laurita on Kevin McStay
Laurita Blewitt, a Knockmore woman , said that McStay is "a great GAA man" and hopes he can finally bring the Sam Maguire back to Mayo.
Well look Kevin has proved himself in Roscommon and with St Bridget's, and he's a great GAA man and he has a great understanding of the game. He's got a big background team in there now, some big Mayo names in the team. So it's always going to be a tough job when you're the Mayo manager, you've got one thing to achieve and that's to win an All Ireland and you'll be measured, unfortunately, on that.
Our club championship is getting going now, the first weekend in September, so I'm sure he's going to be busy going around to every club match in Mayo and keeping an eye on new talent and I'm sure there's plenty there. We've seen some great new talent come out over the last few years, so I wish him the best of luck. I'll be definitely shouting Mayo on all the way and hopefully we can get Sam, if not next year, the following year.
GAA: Joe Brolly's "secret" love for Mayo
Over the Summer, Laurita married The Sunday Game analyst and Derry GAA legend Joe Brolly. Joe has been known to have quite strong views on Mayo GAA in the past, but his wife has said that the reason behind his frustrations with Mayo are that "he's a secret Mayo fan".
Blewitt said:
Don't tell anyone this now, but I think Joe is actually a really secret Mayo supporter. I think they frustrate him too much. I think when he gets annoyed about Mayo football is that he really wants them to do well. And now that he's married to me, I suppose he has no choice but to become a Mayo supporter. He’s stuck in Mayo. He goes to every club match, he goes to all the championship matches. I've noticed in the last year especially, it's kind of like no matter where he is in the county or in the country, he's wondering what time the club matches around. So, he's a secret Mayo fan. Just don't tell anyone else. I wouldn’t like to ruin his reputation.
With Joe now living in Mayo, it certainly will be interesting to see where his allegiance lies during next season's SFC campaign and whether Laurita has truly converted the Derry native.

Gaelic4Mothers&Others
Gaelic4Mothers&Others, sponsored by Sports Direct, are having their first blitz in three years. With over 400 clubs from all 32 counties taking part and more than 2,500 people expected to participate, it's a great initiative from the LGFA to get people back into playing the sport.

Laurita Blewitt will return to Gaelic Football action for the first time in nine years with her club Knockmore and has encouraged people to give Gaelic4Mothers&Others a go.
It's brilliant. Firstly, as well, that Sports Direct are so involved in it and they're two years into their three year sponsorship deal with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association and this brilliant initiative, which is Gaelic for mothers and others. My own club here in Knockmore, which I'm going to be part of going forward, set up in 2017. So they are well established.
There's something like 400 clubs now right across the country, and it's just a great initiative for women to get back into sport, get back into gaelic in a non competitive, recreational way and just have fun. Some people may have played football all their lives and got out of it through having kids or whatever and might not have been able to get back to that level of fitness to play county football, club football, whatever it is.
So, to be able to do this now in a non competitive, fun way is brilliant and it's also a way of promoting your fitness. You're getting your weekly exercise in and it's giving people the opportunity to meet up with people in their community. And if you're new to a parish or you're new to a village, it's a brilliant way to get to know people.
Whether you're somebody who has never played the sport or you're a former player that is interested in getting involved in a non-competitive setting, Blewitt has urged people to give it a try.
People absolutely love it. I was talking to the girls in my club and the manager, Adrian, has been trying to get me involved for ages. And I suppose the one thing that was holding me back was that I wasn't going to be able to commit, to be there all the time and get my understanding of Gaelic. And you're either committed to it and you're training maybe twice, sometimes three times a week, and if you can't commit to that you're letting your team down.
But the great thing is because it's not competitive, because it's more of a fun initiative, that you can miss training once every now and then, but you're still getting in there, you're still playing and you're keeping your fitness up.
The blitz takes part at Naomh Mearnóg and St. Sylevester's GAA Club in Malahide on Saturday the 3rd of September.

Blewitt has said that there's plenty more to come from the trio after their summer break.
It's just three friends having a chat. We meet together. We prefer doing it together in person in the henhouse, as opposed to kind of over zoom, because we get that chemistry going much quicker.
It's brilliant. I suppose it was natural, it developed naturally and it's always organic conversations and God only knows where it starts and where it ends. So I think people enjoy the fun of it and the spontaneity of it and hopefully we can continue to have loads of memories and conversations for a long time to come yet.
Their latest episode was released on Thursday morning and you can check it out here.
Being Joe Biden's relative
Laurita is the third cousin of President of the United States Joe Biden. When asked whether her cousin is a fan of the podcast, Laurita said "I hope he doesn't listen to it", and with some of the topics that are spoken about, she isn't wrong.
I hope he doesn't listen to it. I encourage my older relatives not to listen to the podcast. I was listening to one, the one that was going out on Monday in the car on Sunday before it went out, just to make sure it was okay and my father was in the car and I had to quickly switch it off because I was like 'that wasn't me, I didn't say that!'
