Liam Sheedy is set to lead independent review involving Kildare camogie. An independent review is to be completed by the Camogie Association following an incident involving the Kildare ladies and their withdrawal from this year's All-Ireland Camogie intermediate championship.

The Kildare ladies hit headlines last month after it was revealed that the senior Kildare team were told via a WhatsApp message that they were being withdrawn from this year's All-Ireland Camogie intermediate championship.

This caused a huge uproar amongst the players, with many taking to social media to express their anger and hurt towards the Kildare board, many felt blindsided by the decision and didn't appreciate being told such an important message through WhatsApp.

In a statement released by the camogie association, they said

"On foot of engagement between the Kildare Executive, members of the Kildare panel, the Camogie Association and the GPA it was agreed that an independent review will be undertaken of all matters pertaining to the preparation and participation of inter camogie teams representing Kildare.

This review will be led by Liam Sheedy and supported by Katie Redmond and will commence shortly.

The team said they were informed of the county board's decision through a WhatsApp message and told there would be no further discussion about the issue.

The players promptly released a statement following the news, where they criticised the decision and the lack of communication around it. They said it "brings to a head a pattern of disrespect shown to us players over the last number of seasons."

Since then Kildare Camogie Executive representatives, members of the Kildare panel, The Camogie Association and GPA have all met to discuss the problem. This meeting resulted in an agreement to conduct an independent review into the matter.

A statement from the Camogie Association read:

"It was agreed that Kildare will not participate in the 2023 Intermediate All-Ireland Camogie Championship. This very difficult decision was reached by the Kildare executive and players after extensive discussion.

"All parties committed to undertake an independent review of all matters pertaining to the preparation and participation of inter-county camogie teams representing Kildare.

"This independent review will be overseen by Ard Chomhairle of the Camogie Association, and will involve the County Board, clubs, players and other relevant parties. The goal is to improve structures and supports, to enable Kildare Camogie to perform at the highest levels."

Although the Camogie Association gave no timeline as to when the independent review would be completed, they did say that the review will be led by Liam Sheedy and supported by Katie Redmond and will commence shortly.

A statement released Friday read:

"The Camogie Association thanks Liam and Katie for making their unparalleled expertise and experience available for this review. The Association looks forward to the fullest support for and participation in this review in the interests of the development and future success of Kildare camogie."
