NUIG will play Garda College for a place in the Sigerson Cup quarter-finals after beating Queens by a point at the Dub on Wednesday night.
A superb point from Kieran Molloy proved the difference between the sides as NUIG went three points up with 12 minutes to play before Queens got two back but were unable to find an equaliser.
Galway midfielder Peter Cooke also scored four points, two coming from play, as the scores finished 1-8 to 1-7.
Molloy's point was a brilliant sliced effort from the sideline.
"It was lucky enough that it went over, I had my eyes half-closed kicking that one, I'd say," the modest Corofin man told Jerome Quinn after the game.
"It was tough to come up here, it was a long journey to come up here.
"To grind out a win like that, they were a very tough team to break down. They're physical men, fast. I thought the lads showed absolutely immense character to come back.
"I think we were two points down and then came back and went three points up. I thought it showed immense character from the lads."
