Armagh are All-Ireland Champions for just the second time ever and for the first time since 2002. The one constant between those tow teams has been Kieran McGeeney who lifted the trophy 22 years ago and now has won it again as manager.

McGeeney is now the 14th man in the last 50 years to win the Sam Maguire as a player and manager, joining an illustrious list which includes the likes of Paidí Ó Sé, Jim Gavin and Mick O'Dwyer.

McGeeney was emotional during the trophy lift but he was able to compose himself for an interview with RTÉ where he immediately wanted to credit his opponent and friend Padraic Joyce.

The pair played against each other at stages during their careers and they were also part of the Ireland team that played to Australia in 2001, 2002 and 2003 for the International Rules Series.

Speaking with RTÉ McGeeney immediately showed sympathy for Joyce and credited his and Galway's efforts and dedication.

It's fine margins, I feel for Joycer. He's no different than me. It's a thin line, sliding doors as they say.

He's put his life and soul into this, the same way I have, the same way those Galway players have.

It's funny, you're seen as one thing, you're one point ahead and (then you're) seen as another. But I suppose we'll take this one.

I've been seen as a gobs***e long enough, I suppose I'll take one day you know?

In a moment where no one would blame him for talking about him or his side Kieran McGeeney instantly showed sympathy for Padraic Joyce. A true class act indeed.
