Kieran Donaghy has rubbished recent rumours, which came to light earlier this evening, that the Kerry legend was set to become the new manager of the Roscommon gaelic football team. The position is currently vacant after Anthony Cunningham stepped down when the season ended.

The Connaught Telegraph reported that Donaghy, who is currently working as an assistant with the Armagh footballers, was set to be unveiled as the top-man with the Rossies.

However, the Roscommon Herald Sports Editor, Ian Cooney quickly claimed that the story was nonsense in a tweet which read "Kieran Donaghy to Roscommon??? April Fool's Day isn't for another seven months!!"

An hour after The Connaught Herald had tweeted their report, Kieran Donaghy took to the social media platform to rubbish the claims, and call the newspaper out for 'lazy journalism'

"Absolute rubbish," wrote Donaghy.

I did not speak to one single person associated with Roscommon GAA.What has happened to fact checking a story these days. WhatsApp rumours are a scary thing.#lazyjournalisim #madstuff

Kieran Donaghy discussed his time with the Armagh footballers in an interview with Sky sports last year: "

"It's been great. Having been getting a small bit more used to it having done my stint with the Galway hurlers and the Sigerson Cup team in Tralee IT last year, I'm really enjoying working with the backroom team in Armagh at the moment, led obviously by Kieran McGeeney. Having played with him before, I knew what I was getting myself into.

"But [there are] some great characters inside the dressing room. I'm enjoying the buzz being a part of a group that's trying to get better every day, and I'm enjoying my role inside in that."
