Kilcoo made history yesterday by securing a sixth consecutive Down senior title, but were made to sweat by Burren before eeking out a two-point victory.
Dylan Ward kicked 0-04 from play for Kilcoo, accentuating his reputation as one of the new, great hopes of Down football. Arguably the score of the game, however, came from the vanquished: Kevin McKernan landed this monstrous point from play with the game ticking toward half-time.

In spite of McKernan's best efforts, however, he was powerless to stop Burren from a two-point defeat. The critical stage of the game was the final twenty minutes. Burren lost a man - Conaill McGovern to a straight red - and three points on the scoreboard, outscored 0-05 to 0-02.
Kilcoo equal the six-in-a-row achieved by Burren in the 1980s, and will face Slaughtneil in the first round of the Ulster Championship, whom they lost to in the provincial decider last year.
