All-Ireland champions Limerick stormed to a nine-point victory over Kilkenny in Nolan Park today as they continue their superb recent form. As far as Ken McGrath is concerned, it was a massive performance that demonstrated the ability of John Kiely's outfit.
Speaking before today's game, former Kilkenny hurler Jackie Tyrell was reluctant to put the Shannonsiders in the top bracket right now. As reported by the Irish Independent, Tyrell said Limerick are "not there".
I don't see them (Limerick) in the top three. I think you have Clare, Galway and Tipperary - I don't see Kilkenny or Limerick in that bracket at the minute. I don't have them in there.
John Kiely will be sitting at home rubbing his hands together when he hears that! But honestly, I don't think anyone is as far on as Clare are at the minute and until the league throws up more, I wouldn't have Limerick or Kilkenny in there."
He went on to warn that it's early days yet: "I wouldn't be really getting too carried away by Limerick just yet. It's a long year. I don't see them winning the All-Ireland this year, I really don't."
It's a view Ken McGrath certainly does not subscribe too.
"I agree with a lot of things Jackie says, I agree with a lot of his ethos on the game but I think he thinks he was up in Donegal for the weekend. For me, Limerick are definitely in the top three. It is hard to separate teams, to be honest.
"There is not a puck of a ball between the teams in Munster. There is very little between teams."
