Jonny Cooper's father Brendan praised a taxi driver for his quick intervention in coming to the aid of his son after last Friday's stabbing in Dorset Street.

He told Sean O'Rourke on RTE Radio 1 that Jonny suffered roughly nine stab wounds around his neck and face. Jonny suspected that someone was following him and opted to sit down and let him pass by but he approached him and demanded his wallet. When Cooper refused, the frenzied attack commenced. The attacker then took his wallet, 'as cool as you like.'

A passing taxi driver came upon the scene as the assailant was running off. Very kindly he stopped and looked after Jonny by calling the ambulance etc. So we're very grateful to that taxi driver. I've yet to speak to him but I have his name and number and I will be making contact because we very much appreciate the action he took. It probably saved him from a worse fate.
