Before today's All-Ireland final, the last time Johnny Glynn started a game for Galway was another All-Ireland final, the 2015 defeat to Kilkenny.

That year, Glynn gave a gloriously loose interview to RTÉ after his starring performance in the quarter-final win against Cork. Glynn again let loose after Galway's victory on Sunday while speaking to Sky Sports.

Glynn has spent much of the last two years working in New York. He thanked his employers for being 'awful sound' and allowing him to be part of this year's Galway panel. He disclosed that his return was player driven and one which Micheál Donoghue's management team wanted to see.

I always thought it'd be awful unfair coming back and it'd be awful unfair to the other guys. The players were pushing it and the management wanted it. Sure the last thing that I wanted to do was let down fucking Galway. Sure look at it, how could you miss this?

Galway made one change from the side which defeated Tipperary to the one which started against Waterford on Sunday. It saw Glynn replace Niall Burke in the starting team.

Glynn said that when the team was announced during the week, Burke took a moment to tell him that they'd win the game in tandem. And so they did, Glynn started and Burke replaced him seven minutes into the second half. Burke's introduction would prove a vital one, he scored two points with the game in the mix.

I put in the hard work and I knew my job was to go in, work hard and try my best. Niall Burke was the first lad up to me in training the last day and put the arm around me and said 'we're going to win this together.'

In fairness, Niall came on and won that match for us today.
