Footage captured from the stands showed the mega distance from which Doyle was pinging his frees over, with a Kildare fan page suggesting that the 45-year-old was putting on an "exhibition" in free taking.

Allenwood would ultimately run out 0-11 to 1-07 winners, to claim their third Kildare intermediate championship.

Johnny Doyle's tally of three points earned him the man-of-the-match award, with the crowd giving the Kildare legend a warm reception when the decision was announced at Dr Cullen Park.

Sunday's triumph was not even the first sensational contribution Johnny Doyle has made to this season for Allenwood.

In the quarter-final against Caragh, Doyle nailed a last-gasp free to force the game into extra-time, in a game which Allenwood would go on to win.

After Allenwood were crowned Kildare intermediate champions on Sunday, Doyle took to social media to share a photo of him celebrating the triumph with his family, with the caption, "One club One family."

It is Doyle's second county championship in an Allenwood jersey, after playing a part in the club's only Kildare SFC triumph in 2004.

A legend of the county's football history, it is extraordinary to see Johnny Doyle not only continuing to turn out at club level, but excelling to such an extent that he continues to pick up man-of-the-match awards.

Doyle made his debut for Allenwood in 1995, and did not miss a single game for his club until last year's victory over Caragh.

28 years since his club debut, he's still got it.
