Dr Crokes midfielder Johnny Buckley is free to play in the All-Ireland Club Football final on St Patrick's Day, after the red card he received in the semi-final win over Mullinalaghta was rescinded this evening.
Buckley received his marching orders after an off the ball incident in the victory over the Longford champions, much to the confusion of the player himself at the time. The Kerry club appealed the decision, believing they had footage to clear their player of any wrongdoing.
Speaking on Radio Kerry's Terrace Talk on Monday night, Crokes selector Edmund O'Sullivan said the club were confident in lodging a successful appeal:
We've looked at some footage that we have ourselves and it just seems to be a coming together of the Mullinaghta player and Johnny and they both fall on the ground.
There doesn't seem to be any striking in it. We'll see where the club go with that but it looks like we'll appeal it.
That confident has now proven to be well founded, and Buckley will line up against Corofin in Croke Park in two-and-a-half weeks. Crokes will be seeking to win their second All-Ireland crown in three years, while Corofin will be looking for a second consecutive title.
