Just one game into their Munster Championship campaign, Tipperary are already coming under severe pressure on the back of their loss to Limerick last weekend.

The Premier County came into that fixture well rested, having been given a bye during the first week of the championship. However, they were unable to make that count as they were handily beaten by the reigning All-Ireland champions at the Gaelic Grounds.

It continues what has been an underwhelming season for Tipperary. With a game against a rejuvenated Waterford team to come on Saturday, they are already in danger of an early exit from this summer's championship.

Joe Canning questions comments made by Tipperary boss Liam Cahill

Tipperary have been out of sorts for some time now, something that was clearly on show against Limerick. Their tactical setup seemed to be misguided, dropping extra men back but having little impact on stemming the opposition's attacking flow.

Liam Cahill would go on to question the performance from his players after the game, a move that has puzzled some.

Writing in the Irish Times, Joe Canning questioned the wisdom of Liam Cahill calling out his Tipperary squad after the loss.

After the game Liam Cahill came out and wondered what was wrong with the players. I found that a bit strange.

Players obviously take direction and leadership from management and when you hear the boss saying he doesn’t know what’s wrong with his team then where are they going?

If I was one of those players I wouldn’t take kindly to that...

To keep Tipp’s season alive, Cahill is going to need those players to go to the wall for him in Walsh Park tomorrow. Questioning them in public wasn’t the smartest approach, in my view.

Cahill clearly felt that he needed to inject a bit of urgency into his Tipperary players ahead of the game against Waterford this weekend, a game they cannot afford to lose if they are to have ambitions of advancing to the All-Ireland series this summer.
