Joe Canning Takes Another Step Up Galway Hurling Coaching Ladder

Joe Canning will be part of Galway's U20 hurling management team next year. Canning has been named as a member of new manager Fergal Healy's backroom team along with Eamon Cleary, Padraic Duddy and James Skehill.

Canning and fellow 2017 All-Ireland winner Skehill were both part of Healy's Galway minor management team for the past two seasons.

Under Healy, another former Galway inter-county player, the Tribesmen reached the 2022 minor semi-final and the 2023 final where they were beaten by Clare.

"Fergal Healy is to be recommended as the Galway u20 Hurling Manager on a 3-year term," Galway GAA announced in a statement.

"A distinguished former intercounty player, Fergal has extensive coaching and management experience with his club Craughwell, Galway Academy squads and with the Galway Senior hurling team.

"Most recently, Fergal served as Galway Minor Manager in 2022 and 2023.

"He will be joined by Joe Canning, Eamon Cleary, Padraic Duddy and James Skehill as members of his management team. We wish them the very best of luck over the next 3 years."

Healy will take over from Brian Hanley, who was thanked by Galway GAA for his service to the county's minor and U20 teams since 2019. Hanley led Galway to the 2019 and 2020 All-Ireland minor titles.

On Tuesday night, Shane Dowling was named at Limerick minor hurling manager. The 2018 All-Ireland winner succeeds Evan Loftus who has moved on to become Limerick U20 hurling manager.
