Although few retain the notion that this Galway side are a one-man-team, Joe Canning was once again an instrumental figure as they overcame Kilkenny in today's Leinster hurling final replay - no more so than a few others, however.
So often looked upon to deliver, one got the impression that last year's All-Ireland final win would ease the expectations somewhat. Fulfilling his potential, and not allowing his stellar talent to pass without lifting the Liam MacCarthy cup, today's win further demonstrated that this Galway team might just be getting started.
However, all is not rosy in the west for Canning & co.
After they were perceived to have let last weekend's Leinster final slip away, some fans of the Tribesmen were less than forgiving.
Speaking to RTÉ Radio One after this afternoon's win, Canning revealed the less than welcome message he woke up to this morning from a Galway 'fan':
We got a lot of stick, especially in Galway, you know?
I woke up to a Tweet from a Galway man this morning giving me stick about last week's performance, so there was a lot of motivation there for us from last week ... even in our own county.
Asked would he be replying to the Tweet in question after today's win, Canning was thinking something more long-term: "No, no, he's from Kinvara so we'll see him someday."
Updated: In in the end it was confirmed that the account from which the tweet had been sent was in fact a mock account, and the issue has been resolved.
