After a whole year of publicly criticising the Derry county board for appointing Mickey Harte as manager of the Oakleaf county, it looks like they could go down that route again.

Derry are the only county left that are yet to appoint a manager, despite Harte departing from the role back in early July.

A list of candidates have been linked and written off, including James Horan, Rory Gallagher, Peter Keane, Mark Dornan, and Karl Lacey, but now an old frontrunner has re-emerged.

Tally was originally linked with the position but then it was announced that his role would change at Kerry to Performance Coach, and it is something that he has openly discussed.

This change in role was to help take the load off the long travels that he would have to make from the north to Kerry, and it looked like he would remain a part of Jack O'Connor's team in 2025.

John Fogarty from The Irish Examiner has today reported that Tally is again a candidate for the Derry job. The report explains a cryptic tweet from Brolly earlier on the matter.

"Derry board going through the phone book of Tyrone managers. Shameful lack of loyalty to their own. Shameful lack of integrity."

Tally has worked with Derry as a coach before, and has a long CV of impressive stints that make him a highly sought after manager.

The Galbally native was a part of the Tyrone backroom team in 2003 when they lifted their first All-Ireland title, and then worked with Derry before moving to Down where he helped James McCartan lead the Mourne county to an All-reland final in 2010.

Tally eventually became the manager of Down himself before taking on a coaching role with Galway, and ultimately Kerry, where he helped the side win the 2022 All-Ireland title.

During this time he worked as a lecturer at St Mary's University and managed the side to a Sigerson title, so the Ulsterman has a lot of experience working with teams, development sides, and county set-ups, and could be the right fit for Derry, although Brolly certainly doesn't think so.
