Joe Brolly has never been one to hold back an opinion about his beloved GAA and today was no exception as the RTE football pundit weighed in on the ongoing beef between RTE's hurling analyst Michael Duignan and Wexford manager Davy Fitzgerald.
The spat relates to tweets made at half-time of the Waterford v Wexford game by Henry Shefflin and Duignan criticising the sweeper system. This seemed to incense the Wexford manager to the point where Fitzgerald said he respected them as players but not as pundits.
Fitzgerald was also unhappy with Duignan's opinion (or lack of) on The Sunday Game, when Brian Cody appeared to put his hand on the fourth official during the Waterford versus Kilkenny game in the All Ireland qualifiers.
Brolly was on RTE's Saturday Sport today with Des Cahill to specifically talk about the on-going spat between the Wexford manager and the Offaly legend.
I can enjoy Davy Fitzgerald as much as the next man but no-one craves the spotlight more than Davy.
I was behind Davy at the Leinster final and every time he knew the camera would come to him he would go hyperactive. I have no doubt watching him that that is all a part of the act.
Don't tell me that Davy loves the spotlight, he craves it. He wants to be the centre of attention at all times.
The man would crawl over crushed glass to get to a mic and he loves publicity.
That's fine but to say that it is unfair for Michael Duignan to take him on about the sweeper system? It is a huge debate in hurling.
Hard hitting words from the Derry native on the Wexford manager.
That said, there are many out there that will agree with him, and it will be interesting to see if Davy wants to bite back. If he loves the spotlight half as much as Brolly claims he does, you'd have to expect him to not let it lie.
