Joe Brolly and Paul Kimmage. It's an unusual duo.
During the week in his 'Gaelic Life' column and today in his piece for the 'Sunday Independent', the incomparable Joe Brolly told a memorable story about himself and Paul Kimmage after the drawn All-Ireland final between Dublin and Mayo at Croke Park. Brolly painted this brilliant picture of himself and Kimmage strolling through the streets of Dublin and the various characters they encountered along the way.

Brolly is a figure who divides opinion throughout the country, but you can't deny that he is an intriguing individual. And, in an eventful appearance on Newstalk's paper review where he got stuck into his old friend David Walsh, Kimmage gave his own side of the story regarding Brolly's column, and gave us an insight into the side of Brolly that we rarely see - in other words, away from the spotlight.
Kimmage started off by declaring that Brolly "is not wired the same way we are" and describing him as a "unique person" before going on to recount Brolly taking the piss out of the Dublin team as they come out of the dressing room after the game. He recalls Brolly's "kindness" and "amazing ability to connect with people" (Brolly plans to put on a Mayo jersey in the RTE studio after the match if they win, as a tribute to a young girl named Laura Donnellan, who died from cystic fibrosis).
The best part of the audio is the first couple of minutes, but it is worth listening to the full clip on the topic of one of the most divisive figures in Irish society.
