Jim Gavin would not confirm whether or not Diarmuid Connolly will be part of his plans this season.

It's now nearly a year since Connolly last lined out for Dublin. He came on as a sub during last February's win against Mayo at MacHale Park in the National League.

As Dublin won their fourth All-Ireland in a row last year, Connolly spent the summer playing with Donegal Boston in the US.

"It’s like any player who volunteers their time for playing inter-county football," Gavin is quoted as saying by RTÉ following Dublin's loss to Monaghan on Sunday.

Those choices that they make are purely those choices and, if players want to come back, we’ll be delighted to have them.

Asked if that meant Connolly does not want to return to the Dublin set-up, Gavin replied, "No, that’s not what I said."

During his absence from the panel last year, the message coming from Dublin players and management was that Connolly was taking either taking a rest or break from the sport.
