Jamesie O'Connor: "Kilkenny Don't Have the Energy to Come Back"

Talking Points is Balls.ie's new weekly GAA show in partnership with Sky Sports GAA, which will run every Monday between now and the All-Ireland Football Final in September.

With the help of the Sky Sports punditry team, we'll be looking back at the weekend that was and getting deeper into what you're talking about on a Monday.

The main Talking Point this week was Wexford's incredible first Championship win over Kilkenny in 13 years on Saturday night, and the abject performance of Brian Cody's Leinster Champions, who perhaps put one in one of their worst performance in Cody's 18-year career as manager.

But was this an aberration, or a sign of the true end of an incredible era? After the game, Ollie Canning and Jamesie O'Connor feared it could be the latter.

In particular, Canning singled out the fact that Cody's side didn't seem to vary their play in the way that Wexford did.

"I just thought Kilkenny were a bit one-dimensional today," he said. "Some of the puck outs and long strikes into the full forward line did work out, but a lot of the time Wexford just gobbled up that ball and came out of defence with it."

"Kilkenny just seemed to have one plan, and that was to hit every puck out long, as far as they could down the field"

Whether the energetic presence of Davy Fitzgerald in the stands was enough to spur on his team to find another gear, O'Connor was sure of one thing - Cody's side are beginning to show all the miles they have on the clock at this stage.

They looked leg weary in the second half. At one stage it resembled a heavyweight contest, with both sides punching each other out. But Wexford finished stronger, and you just wonder; they've had to go to the well time and time again, and there was always going to come a day when the energy levels just weren't going to be there.

"Walter Walsh made no impact on the game," he added, "Richie Hogan, as we spoke about, made no impact on the game, and it doesn't look like they're going to have the energy to come back."

Our second show also includes analysis from JJ Delaney, a study in the great GAA art of standing behind an interviewee, a message from a broken hearted Cavan man, the wind myth debunked, our fan of the week, and an incredible tribute to Leitrim's appearance in the Lory Meagher Cup final at Croke Park.
