As James Woodlock told the story of breaking his leg during the 2009 Tipperary county final, you could hear the exclamation - possibly from Eddie Brennan - of 'ah Jesus' from the RTÉ studio.
Six weeks after Tipp lost the 2009 All-Ireland final to Kilkenny, Woodlock and his Drom and Inch side took on Thurles Sarsfields.
Woodlock suffered a horrific leg break which would keep him out of the game for 10 months. It would also mean him missing the 2010 Championship and Tipp's termination of the Kilkenny 'drive for five'.
On 'Up For The Match' last night, Woodlock related his story which included doctors telling him that he could forget about ever playing hurling again.
That diagnosis would prove to be false as Woodlock return to inter-county hurling in 2011 and only retired late last year.
I got it in the 18th of October 2009. I won't forget it because it's ingrained in my memory for the rest of my life.
I ran into the beast that is Paudie Maher. It was in Thurles in a county final. I played most of my hurling in midfield. I was just moved into full forward that day. I nearly got a nosebleed when I knew I was going into full forward.
Paudie was fullback at the time. I got a ball and went to go around him. I had one leg off the ground getting ready to turn and Paudie crashed into me. So my leg was stuck in the ground. It's like you broke a pallet or a lat off a step. I could hear the break, the crowd could hear the break, My ankle got stuck in the ground and I fell the other way. My knee nearly hit the ground and my ankle was nearly stuck in the ground, it just fell at and angle. With all the weight on it, they just pushed down beside each other.
There were seven breaks in it all together and I still have a rod in it. I have two pins for my ankle. I had two through my knee but they took the ones out of my knee. I still have the ones in my ankle. I can feel the screws inside the skin.
You can watch Woodlock on up for the match below.
