Wexford's James Owens will complete a rare back-to-back when he picks up the whistle on August 18 and referees the 2019 All-Ireland hurling final. It will be Owens second All-Ireland final in a row.
On the back of two semifinals marred by curious refereeing, the appointment of Owens ensures that refereeing likely won't be a talking point in barrooms and on the Sunday Game. Owens' whistle work in the 2015 and 2018 All-Ireland hurling finals and in the Cork-Kilkenny and Clare-Limerick matches passed without major incident.
