Kerry's League ambitions for 2015 have taken an early blow after it was confirmed that Footballer of the Year James O'Donoghue could be out for up to six months. O'Donoghue has been battling with a shoulder injury all season and, although Kerry had hoped he could avoid surgery, he has now been forced to go under the knife on Friday.

A statement from the Kerry camp has said that O'Donoghue's rehabilitation could take as long as six months.

James O'Donoghue is having routine surgery on his shoulder injury on Friday. He will subsequently enter a rehabilitation program which may take up to 6 months.

With Colm Cooper still on the sidelines, latest estimates suggest until March, the news of O'Donoghue's surgery is sure to be a blow to the All Ireland champions' hopes ahead of the Allianz Football League campaign.
