The 2021 Championship is only days old but the Laois and Westmeath U20 hurlers served one of the most memorable matches of the year last night. The match finished 4-33 to 4-27 to Laois after extra time. There were 68 scores in the match but one of them is certain to become famous today.
In extra time, with Laois leading by a solitary point, Laois forward James Duggan put a very makeable shot wide. He immediately started limping - but this wasn't an Mbappe limp after missing a sitter. The pain was obvious from the second he snapped his shot wide. But then Duggan did the most heroic thing as the Westmeath goalie put the ball back into play. He shrugged off his injury. He leapt like a salmon onto a wayward short puckou and shot from his knees.
Point for Laois. You have to see it a few times to dismiss it.

The Duggan score put Laois up two and they did not look back.
The commentators were astonished in their hilarious way.
'That was impossible! Point of the year so far!'
We're just delighted the match was streamed and this point wasn't lost to history. It deserves to be seen and seen and seen again.
For what it's worth, Westmeath had their fair share of memorable scores. This goal from Josh Coll was sublime.
