Speculation is growing about the availability of Dublin's All Star wing back Jack McCaffrey for the upcoming season. While it would take one hell of a blow to disrupt Dublin's anticipated march to another All Ireland title, losing McCaffrey is fairly high up on the list of things that may just do that.
It would seem that possibility is still far from certain but the back page of today's Herald has given Dublin fans plenty of cause to worry.
Having recently skippered UCD to Sigerson Cup success, the Herald is reporting that McCaffrey is giving serious consideration to heading abroad for work during the early stages of the Championship. It must be said that if it is indeed, the early stages of the Championship, you'd have to think that McCaffrey's absence, as important as he is, would do little to disrupt the Dubs in the Leinster Championship.
Nonetheless, if the reigning footballer of the year does decide to take a break from the game, however short that may be, it would nonetheless be a blow to Jim Gavin's plans. Having already lost Rory O'Carroll to New Zealand for the season, losing two All Stars from their defense would represent a body blow to Dublin in their quest to retain the Sam Maguire.
