The world and its mother are glued to social media eagerly awaiting the launch of the iPhone 6 this evening. In many ways it's equally amazing and depressing that we are the last generation who remember life before the mobile phone. A simpler time, a quieter time.
Baring that in mind, we're tracing the evolution of the device; from landline to iPhone 6, through the medium of Irish sport.
Pre-mobile phones
Jerry Flannery relied on his trusty finger and thumb.
While Sean Kelly and Dermot Ahern tried bringing the landline everywhere
And others resorted to more drastic measures
But then...
The revolution began
Everyone got in on it
Bigger was better
And the 'selfie' evolved into a phenomenon
From humble beginnings
Great photos grew
And now, the big day at the last...
...The launch of Cavan's first ever mobile phone
Seriously though, for those of you wondering about the iPhone 6. Here's some of the news about it and the iPhone 6 Plus...
Both products will have a new generation of Retina screen, Ion-strengthened glass, liquid crystal display and an ultrathin backlight. The iPhone 6 is the thinnest product Apple have ever made at just 6.5mm thick.
The iPhone 6 Plus has 185% more pixels than the 5S and has a 5.5 inch display. The iPhone 6 sports a 4.7 inch screen.
The new iOS8 operating system will allow for multi-tasking on the screen of both the iPhone 6 and the 6 Plus. They also come fitted with a 64-bit chip with 2 billion transistors that makes for an up to 25% faster CPU and up to 50% faster graphics performance.
Another new feature on the iPhone 6 is the introduction of a landscape mode.
