The International Rules Series will revert to a two-test format this November.
It will be the first time the series will be played over two tests since 2013. Ireland won the 2013 series in a very one-sided contest, including a 116-37 in Croke Park.
To make the series more competitive, the GAA and AFL decided the cut the series to one-match, with Australia winning in Perth in 2014, and Ireland coming out on top in Dublin a year later.
Armagh's Joe Kernan will return to manage the side. The Crossmaglen legend led the team in the last series in 2015. Australia will be coached by Geelong's Chris Scott. He was part of Australia's backroom team in the same series.
The two tests will take place in the space of six days. Adelaide will host it's first International Rules match since 2001, with the Adelaide Oval hosting the opening match on November 12th.
The second and deciding match with take place in Perth's Domain Stadium (formerly known as the Subiaco Oval) on November 18th. It will be the final game to take place in the venue.
In 2015, Kernan named a 23-man squad, that featured players from 12 different counties. The team was captained by Dublin’s Bernard Brogan.
After winning the 2015 series, Ireland will be hoping to retain the Cormac McAnallen Cup and win a series on Australian soil for the first time since 2008.
Training is expected to begin in the coming weeks, when Kernan will announce his captain and squad.
