With GAA clubs being set up around the world, it's possible that international matches will become a regular occurrence in the not too distant future.
Currently, 16 teams (including Buenos Aires, who we saw preparing for the festival earlier this month) are taking part in an international hurling tournament around County Galway. The Aer Lingus in partnership with Etihad Airways International Hurling Festival started on Thursday, with the participating teams, being made up of a mixture of Irish ex-pats and international players.
Many of the teams are made up of players from several clubs, including Europe Irish (made up of Irish ex-pats), Europe Non-Irish (made up of foreign players at clubs throughout Europe), the Middle East and Australia.
Check out some of the action from Chicago vs St Gabriels, London below.
The finals are due to be held at Pearse Stadium throughout Saturday, with a schedule of events also planned, including food, craft and entertainment.
Tickets cost €5 (free for under-18s) and are available on Tickets.ie, with all proceeds going to the Galway Hospice. For more information, visit hurlingfestival.com.
