It was a video game score that you wouldn't have expected to see in real life, but Kilkenny's minor footballers have had better days than their recent 17-20 to 0-0 loss to Wexford minors.
Kilkenny chairman Ned Quinn came out in the aftermath to apologise for the result, but that hasn't gone down well with Black Cats hurling legend DJ Carey.
The Kilkenny hero doesn't think that Quinn should have to apologise, given how much work he does for football in the county.
I’m slightly disappointed with the fact that the Kilkenny county board should be ashamed.
I know for a fact that Ned has done as much, if not everything, in his power to get football going in Kilkenny, along with a few more like Brendan O’Sullivan.
Carey lauded the standard of football in Kilkenny, acknowledging the difficulties of having a strong team in the hurling mad county. Every kid would prefer to wait for a call to play minor hurling for the Black Cats than play football - despite being a good footballer.
That said, Carey was full of compliments for Quinn and the work he's done, and thinks that apologising undermines all of his previous efforts - and that he has nothing to apologise for.
But I’m not fully in agreement with Ned Quinn apologising for the young fellas that went on the field. It’s a very nice gesture but I’m not fully agreeable with apologising for anybody going out on a field and getting beaten.
No team should be beaten by that amount – particularly in football.
