We have just parted from the biggest weekend in Irish sport and the results are in as to exactly how many people were tuned in. There were three major billings broadcasted across the weekend and the outcome in the ratings was unsurprising.

Thehurling ratings came out on top with a peak audience of 919,000, who watched Kilkenny claim their 36th All-Ireland title. Meanwhile Gaelic football was the first runner-up with the Dublin v Mayo replay hauling in an average audience of 678,000 and a peak of 903,000. Coupled with the 160,000 fans who packed Croke Park throughout the weekend would surely bring that figure close to the million mark.
Trailing a fair distance behind that was the soccer game between Ireland and Gibraltar on Friday evening. The viewership pulled a paltry average hovering somewhere between 330,000 and 438,000 at its peak. Although you have to take the quality of opposition into account.
All this data begs one burning question. How will the boys in green fair out with the ratings this evening when they face Georgia?
