All the nominees for hurler of the week must come from Tipperary after they ended their wait of "six long years" for an All-Ireland title. We can safely assume that hearts weren't bleeding for them in Waterford, Limerick and Galway before last Sunday.
We were spoiled for nominees but it was no surprise to see one man canter to victory in this poll. Noel McGrath delivered a performance marked more by quiet brilliance than his usual flashy brilliance. On a day when the full forward line largely monopolised the scoring, Noel McGrath was more provider than finisher.
Tipp's 20 year old left wing back Ronan Maher also starred on the day, but neither he nor Noel McGrath made much of a dent in this poll. The odd bit of contrarian voting ensured they could only reach a combined tally of 13%.
Coming in second place with a highly respectable 25% of the vote is Tipp's effin' and blindin' marksman, Bubbles O'Dwyer. As silky and skillful hurler as there exists anywhere, Bubbles delivered a display to rival his effort in the 2014 drawn final. This time, he was rewarded with victory.
To no one's great surprise, the winner of this contest is the focal point of Tipp's swaggering forward division. Seamus Callanan decorated this final with a performance for the ages. Nine points from play in an All-Ireland final, and it is safe to say that hurling historians will be talking about this display many years from now. Romps to victory.
