Match Preview
It's been a long time since NUI Galway last won the Sigerson Cup. They beat UCD 1-09 to 0-9 all the way back in 2003 to win their 22nd Sigerson title. However since then they've only been in the final once, back in 2018 when they lost to UCD by a point.
They faced sturdy competition this year as they beat Queen's University and Letterkenny IT before beating MTU Kerry in the semi-finals after extra-time to reach the final. The only player from that 2018 final defeat still playing is Sean Kelly and he'll be looking to go one step further this time around. Galway's Matthew Tierney has been the star man for NUI during their run to the final, being the free-kick taker and engine of the team meanwhile Mayo player Tommy Conroy misses the match as he injured his ACL during the quarter-final match against Letterkenny IT.
UL have a chance to make history as they're looking for their first ever Sigerson Cup title. They've only made the final one time before, back in 1998 when they lost to IT Tralee. They beat last year's champions DCU in the semi-finals to make it to the final. They have been spearheaded by Kerry star David Clifford, who has shone for the college all campaign. However Eoghan McLoughlin is set to miss out on this game as he picked up an injury for Mayo against Monaghan last week.
