It starts here.
The football World Cup began in 1930 with a small number of teams fighting it out in Uruguay. Look at it now.
Well the first weekend of March sees the first ever GAA World Games which is being held in the spiritual home of people teaching English as a foreign language, Abu Dhabi.
Etihad are inviting the best footballers from Canada, the US, Asia, the Middle East, South Africa, Australasia, South America and Continental Europe to compete.
The Middle Eastern county board are arranging the event. All nationalities from around the world are invited. Go here for more details.
We're not sure who'll come out on top here but we suspect that Australia will prove formidable.
Ireland occupy the same position in this arrangement as England did when it came to early football World Cups. They refused to compete because the competition undermined the status of the FA Cup as the greatest competition in the world (Ireland are not 'refusing' to compete, mind).
Maybe in time, the idea that the All-Ireland championship is the premier world competition will look as ludicrous...
