Clare have won the league for the first time since 1978 following a thrilling one point replay victory over Waterford. Incredibly, Clare did not lead until the final puck of the game, as Tony Kelly sent over a point to ensure an extraordinary 1-23 to 2-19 victory. That was Kelly's second point in the final thirty seconds, and the first of these late scores was mired in controversy. Waterford believe that the referee Diarmuid Kirwan should have awarded them a free immediately before he gave Clare the opportunity to equalise from a placed ball.
Mullane was on RTE Radio One in the immediate aftermath of the game, and the game evoked a typically passionate response from Mullane, as he claimed that the referee was "after having an absolute mare", and that he should not referee again this year. Diarmuid Kirwan was booed by Waterford fans as he left the field.
Waterford will feel aggrieved that Jamie Barron wasn't awarded free seconds before Kelly levelled game with his 72nd min free

Waterford entitled to complain. Jamie Barron denied a stonewall free with them a point ahead in injury time.
