Henry Shefflin collected only his thirteenth All-Ireland medal at senior level today as Ballyhale eased past Kilmallock in the All-Ireland hurling final.
Speaking to RTE afterwards, he hinted that today could have marked his last appearance in Croke Park.
The next week or two I need to decide that (his future). I said it from the outset, I'm absolutely thrilled I got to go this long. I’m going to enjoy the celebrations for a day or two and then this weekend I am going to reflect on it and make my decision then within the next week.
I suppose the decision I have to make is whether or not I am going to go back with Kilkenny and it’s a decision I am going to make very quickly.
When it was put to him that he had a great relationship with Brian Cody and that he'd stay as long as Cody hung around, he said 'it's not that simple... Brian has always said it's up to the player to decide.'
John Mullane said he believed he would retire and said he 'would want to be mad to carry on' and asked 'what better way is it to bow out?'
