Following a somewhat turbulent year for the Galway senior hurlers and in fact Henry Shefflin himself, the Kilkenny legend has clarified his future with the Galway County Board ahead of their meeting in August.
It's been a mixed bag of results for Shefflin this season who's now finished his second full year in charge of the Galway Senior Hurlers. They will have been left with regrets about their slow start to the league, with both Limerick and Cork beating them to semi-final spots. While they've been on the receiving end of criticism for those performances this season, beyond the league it was really only the smallest of margins that separated Shefflin and the rest.

The Leinster Championship was Galway's for the taking yet in true Kilkenny style a last-minute goal robbed them of silverware for yet another season. However, Shefflin did well to pick up the pieces and deliver a marquee performance against Tipperary in the All-Ireland quarter-final, a big result that was desperately needed for the County's confidence.
Unfortunately for the Tribesmen and Shefflin that was it, they fell to Limerick in the All-Ireland semi-final but there's little shame in exiting to the now four-in-a-row All-Ireland champions and possibly the greatest hurling team to ever play the game.

Now just weeks after that semi-final exit and after some muted questions over his future out west, Galway County board chairman Paul Bellew has confirmed that the Kilkenny legend will be staying on for at least another year and hopefully into 2025 pending an agreement.
Henry is onboard for next year and we are looking at extending it beyond that.
Henry has indicated a willingness for that and so have we, so now it's a matter of finding a mutually acceptable agreement. But it’s great he is on board and will continue the work carried out so far.
We would hope to have it all wrapped up for the August meeting of the county committee.
What Shefflin can achieve with the Galway hurlers in that time is still uncertain, but with Galway once again on the rise it's bound to be an exciting time for Hurling in the West.
