One of the most celebrated basketballer/Gaelic footballers - ranking alongside Liam McHale and Michael Dara Macauley in the pantheon - is returning to top tier basketball in Ireland.
During his explosive early years in the Kerry jersey, Ger or Marty would invariably toss in the obligatory reference to his other life as a basketball player, proudly unfurling the tidbit as if it was the product of exhaustive late night research.
It would have been obvious anyhow. His approach to Gaelic football was unmistakably that of a basketball man. He had the vision, the intelligence, the ranginess, the awareness of space.
Last January, Kieran Donaghy was the MVP as St. Brendan's won the National Intermediate Cup Final.
St. Brendan's and the Tralee Imperials are collaborating to form 'Tralee Town BC', creating a team capable of competing in the top tier of basketball in Ireland.
And thus, as Donaghy enters the autumn of his inter-county football, he is dipping his toe into top notch basketball once more.
Basketball Ireland, currently headed up by former FAI head honcho Bernard O'Byrne, announced the teams in their expanded 24 team League.
Helpfully, the basketball season runs from October to March, meaning his GAA commitments won't be affected.
Donaghy turned 33 in March this year.
While you're at it, here's Liam McHale playing for Ballina in the Superleague final in 2007 at the age of 42.
