Glen manager Malachy O’Rourke was relieved to progress to the Ulster Senior football semi-finals after his side defeated Errigal.

The Derry champions didn’t have things all their own way, against an Errigal Ciaran team that saw the Canavan brothers put in another standout performance.

An early goal from All-Star Conor Coventry, who pounced on the goalkkepr's mistake from Conor Glass long ball started off a brilliant game, with Errigal responding quickly through a goal from Tommy Canavan. Glen had their second goal after just 14 minutes with a well taken finish from Alex Doherty.

The Tyrone champions regrouped and some lovely scores saw them take a half-time lead of 1-08 to 2-01.

A third goal for Glen from Ethan Doherty saw them draw level and find a new lease of life, as they pushed on in the second half and always kept the scoreboard ticking.

Despite Errigal’s best efforts, Glen held on for the four point victory, much to the delight of O’Rourke, who is originally from Errigal.

“I suppose it’s just relief to get though it. Tough game for me personally in that Errigal is my home club, so it’s not nice going in against that, but I suppose I;ve been with Glen for two years and you’ve a jo to do.

You just have to put all the emotions of the way and do you’re best. Errigal put up a mighty battle and several times we were up against it and at half-time it wasn’t a great position.

In fairness to the boys, they dug it out in the second half and it was a great result in the end.”

Derry midfielder Conor Glass, who was crucial to Glenn’s victory, claimed stopping Errigal’s service into the Canavan’s in the second half was key to victory.

“We probably had to carry the ball a lot more in the first half and we probably didn’t do ourselves any justice carrying the ball into tackles. They thrive in those sort of turnovers and get the ball into the Canavan’s.

Where as in the second half we were a lot more composed with the ball and we were able to combine a bit of running and kicking with the ball as well.

I guess a lot of the midfield battles we won in the second half and it put us in a good platform to go at it in the second.”
