It was another hammering in a Munster Hurling Championship yesterday, but Limerick's 20th Munster title in the LIT Gaelic Grounds was very different than the games that disappointed earlier in the summer. The occasion, the intensity, the hurling, they all reached a new level yesterday, and while Tipp managed to stay with the pace for 50 minutes, Limerick just had too much for them and stretched away, putting down a real marker for the rest of the season.
On RTE Radio, Marty Morrissey and John Mullane were our guides and captured the excitement of the occasion as only they could. We're used to Mullane being in top form for these games, but the addition of Marty as his sparring partner was an ingenious move and brought the Waterford man to a new level of excitement, one we didn't think he was capable of getting to.
John McGrath's second half goal was the height of the day's excitement for Tipperary fans. It brought them level and it seemed as though we had a classic on our hands, and would trade blows with the All-Ireland Champions for the next few minutes.
After a slow start to the second half, Tipperary are suddenly level thanks to a fine goal from John McGrath. Watch live on @RTE2 now, highlights on The Sunday Game tonight at 9.30pm #rtegaa #LIMTIP pic.twitter.com/4JRWBfXnvh

Marty and John were ready for the classic too, and were able to bring their performance to a new level on the back of it, even if Tipperary couldn't hold their part of the bargain.
