Just three minutes into the second half between Mayo and Dublin, Seamus O'Shea was shown a black card by referee Eddie Kinsella.
It followed an off the ball incident involving Dublin corner back Johnny Cooper. After being pushed in the back by Cooper, O'Shea responded by throwing him to the ground.
In a fairly strict and technical application of the rule Kinsella dished out the black card when a yellow would have seemed the more likely option.
