Galway and Kilkenny meet in the Leinster Final for the third time this weekend. The 2010 game was rather unmemorable. Galway didn't really 'bring it' and were flattered by the seven point margin in defeat. Former manager Conor Hayes would later accuse them of 'walking away from that game'.
2012 was a different story. At 31 minutes, the score stood at 2-11 to 0-1. People could scarcely believe their eyes. It was the first time Brian Cody's Kilkenny had ever been humiliated in the championship. The game still holds a certain fascination, not least because Galway utterly failed to replicate the performance in the subsequent two seasons. There are, however, pleasing vibes around the team coming into this year's provincial decider.
If there was one moment to sum up Galway's performance that day it was when Johnny Coen, then is first season, emerged with the ball and was faced with Richie Power attempting to stop him in his tracks....
