The Dublin footballers could be going on the road in the Championship this year all thanks to Garth Brooks.
If Dublin make it to the Leinster Championship final (which they will) and that game finishes in a draw then they will likely have to go on the road in the replay. That is because of Brooks being booked to play in Croke Park on the weekend of the 26th and 27th of July, the dates assigned for a replay.
Leinster Council CEO Michael Delaney told the Irish Independent:
It (replay) won't be in Croke Park anyway – I can confirm that. Croke Park closes down on the evening of our Leinster football final on July 20, and work begins ahead of the Garth Brooks concerts.
We're exploring all options, within the province and outside.
We'll go wherever we can best accommodate supporters. If Dublin are not in it and it ends in a draw, we would be confident of hosting a replay within the province.
But if Dublin are in it, and up against Meath or Kildare, we have to be realistic then and talk to our friends down in Thurles. The Dubs have been there before.
The most likely venue for the game would be Semple Stadium
Dublin have not played a game outside of Croke Park in the Championship since 2006 when they beat Longford at Pearse Park.
That's a game we took an extensive look back at recently.
