A huge melee during a Cork underage hurling game has resulted in Gardai interviewing 20 individuals about the incident according to today's Irish Examiner.
The U-16 Championship game between St Vincent’s and Valley Rovers, which took place last month, was level when an adult member of the crowd entered the pitch and "confronted both the referee and a number of players". This caused what some witnesses described as “an appalling free-for-all” between players and spectators following which the match was abandoned by the referee.
Three teenagers required medical treatment with one being held overnight in hospital. Three players also made complaints to Ballincollig Garda Station regarding the events.
