Mayo have been crowned as Connacht Minor Football Championship winners this evening, defeating neighbours Galway on a scoreline of 2-13 to 1-10 in Tuam.
It was a close contest for the vast majority of the game, with both sides producing some excellent scores in the first half.

As is often the case at this level, goals would prove to be decisive in deciding the outcome.
Mayo got two of them, the first coming via the penalty spot.

They would add a second a few minutes later to open up the lead even further.
Galway would reply with a an absolute beauty of a goal of their own soon after, with substitute Fionán Ó Conghaile producing a stunning finish to get his team back within touching distance.

However, Mayo seemed to kick things up a gear from this point onwards. They finished much the stronger of the two teams, opening up an unassailable advantage as the game advanced into injury time.
In the end, they would run out as winners with six points to spare.
This is the second consecutive year that Mayo have won this competition, also defeating Galway in the 2022 decider. However, it was the Tribesmen that would go on to win the All-Ireland later that summer.
Mayo will be hoping that we don't see a repeat of that in 2023.
