It was a big weekend for the underdogs as three of football's lesser lights won the day. Sligo, Louth and Monaghan all had convincing wins to set this year's championship alight.
Monaghan carried off the biggest upset by destroying Armagh by twelve points, despite playing their regular full back, Darren Hughes, in goal after losing their starting goalkeeper to injury. Armagh's Brian Mallon was sent off just before halftime, but Monaghan were already four points to the good at the time. They were just too good for the Orchard men with Tommy Freeman leding the way with four points from play, and with Cavan or Fermanagh up next, will fancy their chances of making the Ulster final.
Sligo brushed aside a Mayo team who reached the league final in the spring. Only nine scores for Mayo in this one and the heat is rally on now for John O' Mahony, never the most popular man in Mayo after coaching Galway to two All Irelands. Sligo move on, but with Galway up next will have to play as well again to reach the Connacht final.
Louth put up a huge score of 1-22 to beat Kildare by six points on Saturday in a game not notable for it's defending. Louth haven't reached a Leinster final in 50 years, but they are in the easier half of the draw and will fancy themselves against Westmeath the next day out.
Cork and Kerry will have to do it all again after Kerry reeled in a four point deficit in the closing minutes with Colm Cooper kicking the leveller. This was the counties' fifth draw since 2002 and experience has certainly bred contempt. Cork will be favourites with the replay being played in Cork, but Kerry have the momentum after finishing stronger.
In the Bank Holiday Monday game, Waterford held off Clare's challenge and moved on to the Munster final. The teams were level five times during the second half, but some poor wides from Clare let Waterford pull away. Ken McGrath made his return just before the end and scored a massive long range point, (and celebrated it maniacally).
In the other games, Westmeath beat Wicklow with a last minute goal despite being down to 13 men, Limerick beat up Waterford and won by 8 points, and Dublin ran out easy winners over Laois in the Leinster Hurling Championship.
In the weekend's other big GAA news Wexford panellist Greg Jacob was in a porn film with Tanya Tate. Here's the trailer for the now infamous film, "Erotic Tour of Ireland". Enjoy Tanya's lovely accent, and shots of Irish men who presumably have had sex with her.
