Joe Brolly has rightly got a slap on the wrist from his employers over his 'ugly' jibe at Marty Morrissey. Ryle Nugent released a statement yesterday which many assumed would be the the end of the matter. Apologies were offered and accepted and that was that.
But there's another party in all this. No one is thinking about Cavan football.
"It's as ugly as Marty Morrissey, their football." That was Brolly's comment and now the new installed GAA President has taken him to task over it. How dare he call Cavan football ugly.
Aoghán Ó Fearghail, a Cavan native, was speaking at the launch of Newstalk's championship coverage yesterday when he was asked about Brolly's comments. It's fair to say he wasn't best pleased.
Certainly, the players in Cavan and the administrators in Cavan try to promote a game and having it described as ugly and all of that, that’s upsetting and that’s nasty.
I think the media does need to be objective, properly objective and see when things are good, and if things need to be criticised then, absolutely, have a go.
So there you go Joe, it's not just Marty that you need to apologise to.
