The proposed deal between the GAA and Sky has sparked the kind of frenzied debate in which the GAA has traditionally specialised. The story moved along today with the news that Paddy Power has suspended betting on Rachel Wyse fronting Sky's coverage. The majority of players have kept their counsel on the move but some have voiced their opinions.
Tommy Walsh was the first out of the blocks to express his opposition to move.
So our "amateur" game is now being sold to Sky? There is no other sport in the world where players & supporters are taken advantage of more!

His sentiments were supported by the likes of Crossmaglen Rangers' Aaron Cunningham.
His former teammate Darran O'Sullivan, however, essentially endorsed the Sky deal, expressing in the process his admiration for their promotion of the sport of darts.
Am I the only one excited about what SKY could do for the GAA globally? They've made a big sport out of darts & that's 2 fat lads on stage.

Dick Clerkin can't understand the ferocity of the objections.
Whats the big fuss about Sky securing rights to GAA games. Will push standards, increase global audience, and generate revenue. All good?!

Kerry goalscorer from the weekend, Paul Geaney, is also in favour but insists the game should remain amateur for the time being.
Sky sports is the way to go to show case our came to the world.Regarding the money earned-straight to grass roots & clubs & county teams 1/2

We are an amateur association and it needs to stay that way to protect the game. Growing the reputation & interest must come first #GAA 2/2 — Paul Geaney (@Geaney15) March 29, 2014
Former Donegal star Kevin Cassidy reckons that Sky coming in is inevitable but insists that it will not lead to the payments to players
If Sky come on board which will eventually happen there will be no payment for players reason being that it's not sustainable unfortunately

Paddy O'Rourke, meanwhile, offered a sideways glance at the whole business.
