Over the weekend Parnells and John McBrides played out a thriller in the semi-final of the Chicago senior football championship. It was the Parnells who prevailed by the minimum after extra-time on a scoreline of 2-22 - 2-21.
There was a sense of sadness surrounding the game after Brian Mullin tragically passed in a car crash in Limerick last Sunday 24th July. Brian was a brother of John McBrides players Oisin and Jarlath Mullin.
The game itself was a wonderfully entertaining game that full of some of the country's best footballers.
One player who caught the headlines after this game was Paul Towey, who contributed a total of 1-17. The Mayo youngster hit 1-07 from play and what is even more remarkable he was being marked by Tyrone senior footballer Michael McKernan for periods of the game.

The Charlestown man received limited game time under James Horan but his performances abroad are sure to catch the eye of the next Mayo senior football manager.
Mayo have been crying out for an inside forward and player like Towey has been lighting the championship up in Chicago so in 2023 we could expect to see Towey in the Mayo full forward line.
Kevin McStay, Mike Solan, Declan Shaw and Ray Dempsey have all been nominated to be the next Mayo senior football mangers and the interviews will take place over the coming weeks.
Another player who stood out was Armagh's Rian O'Neill who contributed a total of 1-07.
There was plenty of GAA talent on display in this Chicago senior football championship semi-final. Conor Meyler, McKernan, Ryan Johnston, O'Neill, Connaire Mackin, Barry O'Hagan, Ceilum Doherty and Dylan Ward all lining out for the Parnells. While Mayo cohort of Paul Towey, Eoghan McLoughlin, Matthew Ruane, Jack Carney, Fionn McDonagh and Enda Hession featured for John McBrides.
The game itself was a free-flowing contest which led to a highly entertaining spectacle that is very much watching back in case you've missed it.
The Chicago SFC final takes place next weekend.
