Nine weeks after Páraic Duffy announced that he will step down as Director General of the GAA in March, the association has advertised for a replacement.
Duffy, a native of Monaghan, took over from Liam Mulvihill in the role nearly ten years ago. He was initially appointed on a seven-year term but was then asked to remain on in the job.
The GAA is now searching for a "suitably qualified professional" to take over from Duffy.
Duffy's successor will require a "proven track record at senior management level", "strong experience of financial management and commercial acumen" along with a third level business related qualification.
It is also said that an Irish speaker with an excellent understanding of the GAA is preferred.
The salary for the position is not disclosed but will "reflect the responsibility of the role." A number with six figures is very likely.
The requirement for the new candidate to have a business qualification does suggest a change: the four previous holders of the position all came from a teaching background.
Possibly candidates which have been mentioned include former Tipp hurling manager Liam Sheedy who is a provincial director with Bank of Ireland, Dublin GAA CEO John Costello and Croke Park Stadium Director Peter McKenna.
