Wexford hurler Tomas Waters is seeing the funny side of his dreadful knee injury and I must tip my cap to him for leaving me in stitches.
He opens up in this revealing interview with teammate Lar Prendergast about winning the district under-8s final with St Martins and his pre-match ritual of a baby Powers, Woodbines and jelly beans, amongst other aspects of his hurling life.
He seems to have a deep affinity for boiled eggs and hairy bacon too.
In all seriousness Waters is recovering from a scary enough operation on his knee. He told the Daily Star:
'I had the cartilages removed, the cruciate ligament operated on, but there was also a large chip off the bone in the knee.
'As a consequence, two holes had to be bored either side of the knee to allow for the cartilage regrowth, while also hoping that the cartilage would grow through the holes, giving the bone the necessary support.'
Best of luck with the recovery you funny son of a mammy!
