The man who guided Limerick to two All-Ireland finals in the 90s is not bowled over by the county's form this year. In an interview with the Irish Examiner, Ryan described Limerick's season as 'hopeless' and said he is not confident that they will resurrect following their demolition by Tipperary.
He is unwilling to forget the failure to achieve promotion in the League and is dismissive of the notion that the League held little interest for them and the championship was the only focus.
Well, they’re not showing us anything, they’ve had a hopeless season so far. They’ve got away with a bit of a bluffing. Promotion didn’t happen in the league, they beat Clare and then it was ‘We’re only interested in June 21 and Tipp’ but didn’t deliver. So there’s been a bit of covering up and excuses. I’d never question the quality of the team but I’d like to see them find some spark.
Ryan was part of the Limerick side in the blessed year of 1973 and managed the side from 1994 to 1997, losing two All-Ireland finals in fairly distressing circumstances.
